Based on Your Personal Brand…Are You a Coconut or Peach?

posted on March 8, 2012 / IN Personal Branding / 0 Comments

Watch this week’s video, which I filmed on my recent trip to Germany, to find out what makes your personal brand more like a coconut or a peach and why being one or the other can keep you from achieving from your goals.

Hi, I just arrived in Frankfurt, Germany.

I’m here on business and I’m going to have the opportunity to work with a wonderful woman named Katharina. We’re going to take her through my 1-Day Dare to Be Irresistible VIP Branding Experience. We’re going to work together over the next day to unearth her IRRESISTIBLE brand.

But I want to share something with you…

As I was doing research to learn a little bit more about the German culture, someone shared me an analogy that I HAVE to share with you.

They said that Germans are like coconuts! Can you believe that? They used a coconut to describe Germans! But they said that Germans are like coconuts because they’re hard on the exterior, and it takes a lot of time, but once you break through that exterior they’re all mushy and sweet on the inside.

And interestingly enough, they shared that Americans are like peaches. That we’re soft on the outside, and you can sometimes penetrate our outer skin pretty easily. But when you get the core, it’s really difficult to break through that really hard core at the center, and it’s hard for you to get to know who we really are. Sometimes we don’t even know who we are.

And just like a peach on the outside, we’re sometimes easily bruised. Our feelings our easily hurt.

Well, I don’t know if you’d say you’re a coconut or a peach, but one of the things I’ve learned in business is that I have to develop thick skin.

Not thick skin when it comes to people, and treating people cold or distant. But I had to develop thick skin when it comes to embracing the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur. Even in my professional career, there were blows that I had to withstand that were not easy to digest. In my first year of leadership I did a HORRIBLE job of leading my team. And so life comes with blows, and one of the ways to ensure that you will be successful is to learn to develop thick enough skin so that you do not let the challenges of life deter you from your goal.

And, if you’re not already subscribed…
