Video Marketing – Flip HD vs Kodak Zi8
If you are in the market for a portable, inexpensive, HD-capable pocket camera, there is no doubt that you will receive many recommendations for the Flip HD camera. While I think this is a great camera, I think it is also worth considering the Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera. This post will share information on both cameras.
The Flip HD
The video and sound quality are quite good. Video is recorded in H.264 MP4 files format at 30 frames per second. Audio is recorded in AAC format at 44.1 kHz. The average bitrate is about 9 Mbps which lets the Flip store about 60 minutes of video on its internal 4 GB memory. Previous Flip models recorded MPEG4 AVI files. The unit has a built in rechargeable battery.
This camera is great if you don’t need to shoot videos over an hour, don’t mind rechargeable batteries, will shoot videos close to your subject and will not need an external mic and like the convenience of being able to simply stick it in your USB drive to transfer the videos.
The Flip HD will run you approximately $150.00.
The Kodak Zi8
The Zi8 follows the Flip’s simplicity by just having a single button to start recording and no settings to worry about. Just point and record. Unlike the Flip though, the Zi8 relies on the use of SD cards for its storage which is something else to buy, but also means you don’t have to worry about running out of storage space; just take a backup card. It also uses standard batteries as its power source.
The Kodak Zi8 is great if you need the flexibility a SD card offers for shooting longer videos, need the flexibility of an external mic and like using standard batteries to avoid issues with battery memory over time.
The Kodak Zi8 will run you approximately $179.99.
